Taking a “brain break” is a fun way to recharge yourself and stay active!
What are brain breaks? Brain breaks are very short, 3 - 5 minutes, bursts of activity designed to get you moving around.
Why take a brain break? Going to school virtually often means sitting and staring at a screen for most of the day. Taking a brain break energizes your body and your brain, enabling you to stay focused and alert. It’s also a time to relax!
How can my child take a brain break? Have some fun with these examples to get you started!
Freeze Dance: Play some upbeat music and dance like no one’s watching! (We suggest Happy by Pharrell Williams or What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction!) Pause the music at random intervals and have your child hold their pose until you hit play again.
Burpees: Do 10 burpees! Burpees are a great exercise that is easy to learn. Here's a tutorial on YouTube!
Kid led workout videos: By kids, for kids, this Youtube video is a great example of kid-led exercise videos on YouTube. This one is 8 minutes
Be outside: Taking a brief walk outside with family (while social distancing and wearing masks of course) allows you to get some fresh air and relax.
Meditate: It is understandable that you or your child may be stressed due to the pandemic. Meditating for 5 - 10 minutes each day is extremely helpful for de-stressing and relaxing your mind and body. Here's a 5 minute guided meditation.
